Security, or at least good security is very much about problem solving and using the right resources for the right job. This applies across the board from making sure you have the right tactical gear for a shift, to making sure you have the right personnel in the right positions as a team leader or manager. The thing that makes security so interesting and challenging is that there is no option but to face difficult challenges and solve them, in cases where other people would not be able to. Your problem solving ability will often reduce the need to go with a brute force approach or at least make the most efficient and effective use of available forces and tools. As a manager, it has been a learning curve for me over the years to make use of available personnel, when my natural instinct is to try do everything myself. There are times when doing it yourself is essential but sometimes it can be more effective to simply use the right resources as force multipliers to correctly to solve problems. I really liked this article from The load out room which states it far more eloquently than I ever could.
